What is ProRealTime DDE?
ProRealTime DDE plugin (prortdde.exe) is a handy tool that enables you to export the real-time datastream of ProRealTime in any software compatible with Microsoft DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange, a feature present in softwares such as Excel).
The ProRealTime DDE plugin downloads the real-time datastream from the workstation and ensures that you generate the correct codes to export it in your own software. This is very easy to do - and the advantages are substantial. Plus, the ProRealTime DDE plugin is 100% free.
In this section, we explain how you can install and activate ProRealTime DDE plugin.
Start with ProRealTime DDE
Please note that you
need to have real-time data access on the securities you wish to apply the DDE Plugin.
Next, please note that ProRealTime DDE plugin
only works when your Complete workstation is running
AND when the list containing the mentioned securities is displayed.
Here are the steps you need to follow to use the DDE link:
First of all, verify that the DDE feature of the workstation is checked as shown below.
Next, download and launch the file 'prortdde.exe' on your computer by clicking on the link shown below:
Click here to download the 'prortdde.exe' plugin
Note for Windows Vista Users:To launch DDE correctly if using Windows Vista, please right-click the DDE program icon and select "Run as administrator" to launch the program.
Tip: Select "Save" instead of "Open" and choose the directory of your hard disk where you want to download the file.
For example, you can save the executable file on your desktop so you can launch it quickly. Or you can save it in another folder, create a shortcut (by right-clicking on the file), then place the shortcut on the desktop or the 'Quick Launch' bar.
Do you get an error message while starting 'prortdde.exe' ? That means that some files are missing in your operating system. To make sure that the configuration is correct, you will have to follow this procedure:
Start by closing the workstation.
Download all files listed below
into one folder.
(please note that these files MUST be in the same directory as the 'prortdde.exe' file to work properly).
Once you have downloaded the files on your harddisk,
right-click on "mswinsck.inf" and choose "Install".
Next, right-click on "mscomctl2.exe" and choose "Open". Follow the complete installation procedure.
Finally, launch again the workstation. Make sure that the DDE feature of the Complete workstation is checked, and the list of securities is displayed.
As soon as the file prortdde.exe has been launched, a new window appears like the one below:
Simultaneously, a new icon appears on your windows taskbar:
That's it ! Your ProRealTime DDE export link is now up and running.
Datastream selection
In the DDE window, you can select the kind of data that is exported into your DDE enabled software. Although there are 3 default columns (Ticker, Name, and Last), there is a larger choice of data available to export into your software, as shown below:
IMPORTANT: The data coverage that is exported into your DDE enabled software is exactly the same as the data coverage displayed in the "Lists" window in the Complete workstation. Therefore, if you change the list in "Lists" window, the previous data coverage won't be exported anymore. So the DDE plugin allows you to export real-time data of a
maximum of 50 securities.
Export ALL data into Excel
As an example, we'll explain you how to export all the data available in one of your lists (either your customized list or any default list). We assume that you have access to the "Euronext Indices" list. If this is not the case, you can use any other security you have real-time data for.
First of all, you need to display the window 'Euronext Indices' on the Complete workstation. Then, in the DDE plugin, open the menu "Copy DDE link" and choose "All items in excel".
Open your Excel software and click on the field where to export your data. Then select the "Edit" menu and choose "Paste" (please note that you can also paste it by using the function Ctrl + V). That's all !
Are your decimals displayed incorrectly?
Go to the "Extra" menu in the DDE program and check or uncheck the option "Comma notation" to ensure the decimals are displayed as you want them to be.
Export Specific data into Excel
As a specific example, we will explain you how to export the open and last price of CAC40 index.
We assume that you have access to this index in real-time. If not, you can use another index or security you have real-time access for, since this demo works with any kind of security.
First of all, you display the window 'Lists' on the Complete workstation and choose a list that contains the CAC40 index (i.e. CAC40, Euronext indices, World Indices, etc.). If none of your current lists displays the CAC40 index, you will need to add this index to your customized "MyList" list and keep displaying the list while using the Excel export.
Let's assume that you are displaying "Euronext Indices" in the Complete workstation. Click on the "CAC40" line on the DDE plugin, select "Copy DDE link" menu and choose "Last" like shown below:
Open your Excel software and click on the field where to export real-time CAC40 data. Then press "=" on your keyboard, click on "Edit" menu and choose "Paste". A function appears like the one below. Press "Enter" to accept it.
Please note that you can also paste such functions by pressing "=" on your keyboard and pressing Ctrl + V.
Finally, you can also type the function directly in the field located just below the toolbar, as shown below.
