My workstation will not launch. What might be the problem ?

First, click on this link to check your configuration : ProRealTime Diagnostic Tool

If the diagnostic is OK and you still cannot launch the workstation, the problem may be due to an incorrect Java version installed on your computer. If your PC is running on Windows XP or Vista, you can set up the correct Java configuration by following the process below :

To ensure a correct configuration of the JAVA console, please follow every single step of the procedure described below.

  1. Close all your programs and active browsers (except this window).
  2. Now you need to uninstall all existing Java versions :

    • Go to Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs.
    • Check for programs starting with the word JAVA or J2RE or JDK or J2ME (usually these programs are represented by a coffee cup icon).
    • If there is one or several of these programs, uninstall all of them after closing the current browser window.
    • Once the uninstallation process is complete, please come back to this page and continue with the following steps.
  3. Install Java Sun from the following link http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

    • Choose to download the "offline" version of Java if you are using Microsoft Windows.
    • Make sure to click on the 'OPEN' button to install the file.
    • If you can only click on the 'SAVE' button, make sure to install the file after the download.
    • Once you have installed Java on your computer, you might be required to restart your computer.

You can check the version with this link : http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1

Close down all active windows of your browser. Open it again, log onto our website at www.prorealtime.com and launch your preferred version of the platform.

In the future to avoid automatic Java updates, Right-click on the Java icon (looks like a coffee cup) located in the right-hand side of the Taskbar (the blue bar commonly located at the bottom of the screen). Choose 'Open Configuration Panels'. Click on the 'Updates' tab and make sure that the 'Automatically look for available updates' is NOT ticked. Then click on 'Apply'.

If you are using Internet Explorer and still have trouble launching the platform, follow these steps :

  1. From Internet Explorer:

    • Click on Tools/Internet Options/Advanced.
    • Make sure the box "Use Java" or "Use JRE" is checked if you do not see the line "Microsoft VM" above the "Java" line.
    • If you do see the line Microsoft VM (on top of Java Sun, represented by a coffee cup), uncheck the box "Use Java" or "Use JRE" and check the three boxes in the section "Microsoft VM".
    • Validate your selection with OK.
  2. If you are using Internet Explorer 7 only :

    • Click the 'Tools' menu and then on 'Internet Options'.
    • Click the 'Security' tab, then on 'Custom level'.
    • Scroll to the 'Downloads' section. Under 'Automatic prompting for file downloads', click on 'Enable'.
    • Click 'OK', click 'Yes' to confirm the change and then 'OK'.

After following these steps, close your web browser then relaunch it to take into account the modifications and try to launch ProRealTime.

If the workstation still does not launch :

  • Uncheck the "Microsoft VM" lines, and re-check "Use Java" or "Use JRE" in the Tools/Internet Options/Advanced menu.
  • Then click on this link again to check your configuration :ProRealTime Diagnostic Tool.
  • Go to the following question.

OK, I have configured Java in my computer following your indications, but my workstation still won't launch.

If you are using a Proxy server, try to disable it before restarting the workstation.

The problem may also be due to a misconfiguration within your browser. If the Java configuration process did not fix it, we suggest that you download and install a different browser from the one you currently use.

There are a number of browsers you can download for free such as Mozilla Firefox and Opera. We suggest to do a fresh install of one of them and launch your workstation from it.

If your workstation won't launch yet, contact us.

My default browser is Firefox / Mozilla / Opera. Can I launch my workstation from it ?

The workstations are compatible with a large number of popular browsers, including Firefox, Mozilla and Opera.

If you encounter problems while trying to load the ProRealTime workstation with any of these browsers, please follow the Java configuration procedure listed here.

My default browser is the AOL browser. Can I launch my workstation from it ?

Unfortunately this is no longer possible. This browser forces an Internet connection through an AOL proxy, thus severely limiting the communication between your PC and our servers. Please launch your workstation by using any of the browsers listed here.

Then right-click on the Java icon (looks like a coffee cup) located in the right-hand side of the Taskbar (the blue bar commonly located at the bottom of the screen).

Choose 'Open Configuration Panels'. Click on the 'General' tab, then on the "Network Settings" button then select "Direct connection" then click on "OK". If you do not have a 'General' tab, go to 'Proxies' tab, uncheck 'Use browser parameters', and clear all the proxy fields.

Everytime I launch the workstation, I get a window 'Security Warning'. How can I avoid it ?

You need to click the 'Always' button in order to avoid this message. If you do not see the 'Always' button, then click on 'More options' and 'Always run software'.

For Mozilla / Firefox : Before launching the ProRealTime workstation, log on the ProRealTime website, go to the menu 'Tools', section 'Popup manager', and select "Allow popups from this site".

I have got a MAC. Can I use the workstation on my computer ?

Yes, our Complete version is compatible with Safari on Mac OS 10.4 (or greater) with JAVA 1.4.2 (or greater). We recommend a configuration with at least a G3 800MHz and a memory minimum of 256Mb.

If your MAC is running Mac OS 10.4 or a newer version, we recommend you to update your Java configuration in order to use Java 1.5.0 :

  • Go to "Macintosh HD"
  • Select "Applications", and then "Utilities"
  • Select "Java", and open "J2SE 5.0" folder
  • Open "Java Preferences"
  • In the window 'Java Preferences', select "J2SE 5.0" in the field "use the version"

You can now save the parameters and close the configuration windows.

Our Simplified workstation only works with Mac OS 9 and Internet Explorer.

Can I use the workstation on a machine other than a computer (PDA, smartphone, etc.) ?

As long as the machine can install and run the correct Java configuration, it should be able to launch the workstation. However, please note that no formal testing has been carried on as of this date and we do not guarantee that the platform can be launched from any model.

Our offer (Display all)

What are your brokerage fees ?

ProRealTime is NOTan online broker and does not provide any news or financial advice concerning any security or company.

Our company is a provider of market quotations on securities traded within an ever-increasing number of stockmarkets around the world. We offer these quotes either with free end of day access, or on a subscription-fee real-time basis. We also offer a 1-week free trial period of real-time access with no engagement.

Which markets can I access in real time ?

We currently provide data access to most of the major markets around the world and we constantly work to increase our real-time service.

You may go to the 'Prices' section of our website to check our real-time market coverage.

I am also interested on a stock market currently not within your offer. When will you offer real time for it ?

Planned extensions of our market coverage depend on a mix of various factors, and we do not engage on dates for future coverage of any market currently not offered.

Do not hesitate to refer to our 'Latest features' section (accessible on our homepage) for eventual news on this issue. Furthermore, we ask you to let us know your market needs via email -which gives us a written notice that we use when it comes to decide which markets will be added to our offer.

Your feedback is very valuable for us, so please feel free to use our Suggestion box or Contact forms to send us your input.

We are constantly striving to improve your workstation so you can have the best charting and technical analysis tool available at your fingertips. Your message will therefore be taken into account when deciding on the next set of improvements.

I have a strategy that I would like to test with your ProScreener, but I don't know how to write the code.

The workstation comes with a complete built-in wizard to help you to introduce your criteria without writing a single line of code. Please refer to the <a href="<?php echo setlink("help&section=man2_probuilder"); ?>" class="link">'ProBuilder language'</a> link in the menu of the Help section.

You may also look for examples of written codes shared by members of our community in our 'Strategies' section.

Do you offer the possibility of writing the code for me ?

We do currently provide this service for free; however, please be aware that we do this on a discretionary basis and with no engagement in response time.

Usually, response times are shorter if the service concerns correction of minor imperfections on defective codes, rather than developing new code.

Can I have the software on a CD or download an installation file ?

The workstation is not a software that can be downloaded and installed. Instead, it operates by using Java software that comes already installed on your PC.

It works by establishing an Internet connection between your PC and our servers, where you access your personalised workstation profile and use any fully featured version.

Therefore, you can access your workstation from any computer with an internet connection and Java installed: no need to carry your data around !

Is it safe to use my credit card ?

Yes, purchasing at ProRealTime.com is safe. We would not have it any other way. Our secure socket layer (SSL) software is the industry standard and the best software available today for secure e-commerce transactions.

How do I know that the activation of my real-time access has been successfully achieved ?

For credit card payments, activation is immediate. If you pay by Money Order, you need to give us notice (through our Contact form or by e-mail) once you have given the transfer order to your bank.

If you pay by credit card, your real time access will be activated as soon as you receive the confirmation of your subscription by email.
If you pay by money order, your real time access will be activated as soon as we receive an email from you with a confirmation of the transfer.

Please note that if you had the workstation open when you receive this confirmation email, you need to close the session, log out and re-launch it again so your new situation is taken into account by the workstation.

About how much information does ProRealTime download per hour/minute etc... ?

This can be important if you want to use ProRealTime with a 3G modem and you are charged by the amount of data downloaded.

The amount of data downloaded depends on the number of charts, lists and other items you have open that require real-time updates and will vary heavily depending on how you use the application. For a user of ProRealTime with only one chart open and no lists, the amount will be less than one MB per hour.

For an average user of ProRealTime with several graphs open, lists and portfolios updating realtime about 0.1MB per second or 45 MB per hour will be downloaded.

These numbers are estimations and not guarantees.

If you want to reduce the amount of data downloaded: have as few charts, lists and other items that require real-time data download as possible open simultaneously.

Workstation Features (Display all)

At what time do you display the new end-of-day information ?

For real-time subscribers: Daily charts will be updated in real-time as will all other timescale view charts if the user has a real-time subscription to the market in question. These users will have the finished daily candle the second the market closes.

For end-of-day users: The time that the end-of-day charts are updated depends on the rules of the exchange. End-of-day charts may be updated with the trading information of the current day between a few minutes and a few hours after the close of the market, depending on the rules of the exchange. For the forex end-of-day users, the end-of-day charts will be updated at 0H30 GMT.

What extra features do I get in the subscription-based version of the workstation ?

The free version offers the same functionalities as the subscription fee-based version that requires payment.

The subscription you pay for gives you access to real-time data (data refreshed on Tick by Tick) for use on Intraday charts, whereas the FREE version is updated with end of day data.

Do I lose my saved templates and studies at the end of my free trial with real-time access if I do not subscribe ?

No you do not ! You get to keep every customisation you have made on your workstation, no matter if you use the free end of day version, the real-time access or even if you switch from one to the other.

Can I export / download historical data to my PC ?

ProRealTime does not offer the possibility of downloading historical data.

Nevertheless, if you have a real-time subscription, you can export real-time data dynamically to an Excel worksheet (or any software compatible with Microsoft's DDE - Dynamic Data Exchange feature). Please refer to 'DDE data export' on the Help section of our website.

My DDE link disappears whenever I switch from one of my lists to another. Why ?

The DDE link is set between the prices of one single list and your external software. You need to ensure that this list is always displayed in order to ensure the continuity of the DDE link.

You can export real-time data from up to 50 securities at the same time.

Can I export my settings when I change from the Simplified to the Complete Workstation ?

All different workstations are part of the same software platform, so everything is kept from one to the next.

In any case, we do generally recommend to use the Complete workstation as it features the latest available enhancements. Once you get to use it, there will be no need for future migrations!

Tips & Suggestions (Display all)

How can I ensure that charts from my securities are consistently adjusted with dividends ?

You can adjust your charts with dividends by ticking the option 'Dividend adjusted charts' on the Options menu of the platform.

Do you have interactive tutorials to understand how to use the workstation ?

We agree that the fastest way to become used to your workstation is not by reading how to use it, but by watching how it is used: that is why we created a video library containing more than 55 practical examples on different uses of the workstation !

How can I increase the screen resolution to display even more charts & quotes ?

If you cannot see the full toolbars or you must scroll up or down to see the entire size of the lists, make sure your browser window is maximized. You can do this on most PCs by clicking on the small square icon in the upper right corner of the window.

Our workstation is designed to be viewed with a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024 or higher.

On most Windows computers, you will find the window to change this setting by pointing at your Windows desktop and clicking the right button of your mouse. Next, click on "Properties", then on "Settings". Point to the "sliding" indicator, hold down your left mouse button, and drag the indicator to the right until a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024 is shown. Click on "Apply".
